Southern Regionals Weekend Recap!!

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

The Southern Regionals and bonus rounds were held on Lake David in Groveland, Florida from the 22nd to 24th July.  Once again WBC continued to see new PBs being set as well as more pending National and World Records.

Another stunning day on Lake David!

Ben & Chandler

Chandler Cargile has been doing a phenomenal job skiing in his first ever tournament in May. Since then he has continued to improve at rapid pace and has now qualified in the trick event for the 2012 Worlds and this tournament was no exception with Chandler landing his first ever jump in tournament at 8.6 meters. Congrats Chan!

Kiwi Ben Groen once again did New Zealand and Team WBC proud tricking a potential New Zealand National and Asian Australasian Oceanic record of 9,400.  He also set a new PB in slalom with a 16.6.

Lisa Pressendo accomplished yet another PB in tricks with a score of 2410, making her first ever toe-back in competition and barely missing out on a back to front in her other pass. Way to go girl!!

Carol receiving her medals

Carol Jackson skied above both the Womens 5 trick and slalom National Records with a score of 1,060 in tricks and 5.5 in slalom.

In the bonus round on Sunday Ashleigh Stebbeings from Australia set two more pending World records in Open Womens tricks with a score of 4,650 and 6,350.

A big congratulations to all the other skiers that did PB’s and a huge thanks to the crew down there for organising such a great tournament!! If you would like to see any scores from the tournament head to www.BarefootWater-Ski.com and follow the links the Southern Region Results.

David Small Sets Pending Trick World Record

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011

It’s the battle of the World Records between Keith St. Onge and David Small this summer!   Keith was the first to ski over 13,000 but the video was reviewed by tournament officials and will not be submitted for a world record from the Port St. Lucie tournament in May, 2011.   David just tricked 12,300 (with a busted rib!) at Silverado Lake on July 10, 2011.

Here’s the video of Small’z, taken by Brian Heeney:

1st Barefoot Clinic Stop in South Carolina

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

The trip started of with an interesting leg as Charlie (my toy poodle) came with me and it was his first flight.  Fortunately he is a great traveler and did not make a peep the whole way so we were clear sailing.

Ron Meeks, the clinic organizer, met me at the airport and took me to his place on the lake.  This is probably the most organized clinic I have ever been to as when I arrived Ron had a spread sheet there with the whole week planned out with who is coming, what we are having for lunch and dinner for the week and anything else you could imagine.

The first day started off with this water and pretty much continued throughout the week! …

There were a few days where we had some chilly weather which made it a little more difficult to get motivated to get in the water and learn something new.

Then there were also days where a lot of sun cream was needed 😉

One of the skiers, Shawn, has a plane not to far away so on one of the evenings we took a little trip to see the local area and to get an arial view of the set up we were using…  Cheers Shawn!!

I had a great week there and all the skiers learned so much including Ron Meeks doing some surface turns on his feet for the first time and sorting his back wakes, Becky learning her toe holds and getting better at backwards, Jim Miller learning backwards long line, Mark rocking turns out as well as some great slalom and much much more but it would take too long for me to mention.

Everyone skied a lot and resorted to taking small naps in-between sets :)

O, there were also these bugs that only came out ever 13 years, mated and then died within a couple of weeks (kinda cool) and we also came across a snake trying to eat birds under a bridge….

The Barefooting Across AmericaTour Begins

Monday, May 16th, 2011

The tour begins!  5/15

Keith St. Onge and Lauren Lindeman are off!  First stop Port St. Lucie, FL at the PGA tourney.  A great start to the tour Keith St. Onge tricked a potential world record of 13,100!  This is the first time 13,000 points has been reached in history. Woo hoo! After the tournament we loaded up the RV and headed north to Valdosta, Georgia.  The Cargile family was welcoming and allowed us set up on their property for the night. It was peaceful and a beautiful area full of lakes and open land.

Hitting the road early this time in search for a church.   Our navigation system brought up a church within one mile down HWY 75 so we pulled off.  We met a nice young woman and we asked her what time the service was., “Sunday school starts in two minutes.” She said.  Ummm, “What about the service?” We questioned.  Isn’t Sunday school for teenagers and younger?  She replied, “No, this is Sunday school for grown ups.”  We told her we had never been to a Sunday school for grown ups but we were willing to give it a try!  The church was in Lenox, GA and we had a great time and learned a lot from the deacon (Chad) that put on the Sunday school.

We would like to thank Chad for sending us this email and keeping us in their prayers for safe travels.  Thank you so much for welcoming us into your church. Here is what we received from the Church we visited:

“Keith & Lauren,

Hey ! I just wanted to let you guys know how much we enjoyed your stopping by for Sunday School today at Lenox Baptist Church ! It was a pleasure meeting you both and please stop by on your way back through. I pray for safe travels and good luck with everything you all have going on with your barefootin clinics!

In Christ,

Chad Sumner
Lenox Baptist Church”

The billboards along the way are entertaining feet follow us everywhere! Traveling from Valdosta to Atlanta we are hoping to meet up with some friends in Atlanta.  Followed by grocery shopping at Whole Foods in Marrietta, GA in search of Coconut Bliss and other healthy products!

It has been a blessing having my fiancé Lauren with me.  She drives the bus when I get tired and fuels me up with food when need be.  It has been interesting watching her drive this beast though!  A 34ft. motor home keeps you working the whole time while driving.  If it’s windy you feel it, when a trucker passes you it pushes you over and when you drive by a larger vehicle you feel the wind off it and you once again feel the wheel challenge you.  We are approaching Atlanta right now and I can tell Lauren is getting much more relaxed driving the Anytime Fitness Tour bus…phewwwww…I can relax a bit, but must take over the helm in the big cities.

WBC Invitational Tournament

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

The World Barefoot Center is hosting and sponsoring the WBC Invitational Tournament on Lake David  in Groveland, Florida on October 7th and 8th.  The contest consists of an elimination round followed by a head-to-head elimination format.  Scores will be posted immediately after each event.  Skiers who make it to the podium will be rewarded with cash awards.

The top twelve overall skiers in the world, and the top twenty skiers in each individual event, will receive an invitation to attend this major event. If one of these skiers cannot make it, the next best skier will then be invited until all available spots in that event are filled.
The tournament begins with a qualifying round in each event with eight skiers advancing.   From there, it becomes a one-on-one/winner moves forward, competition. From eight skiers you will then have four, from four down to two, and from two you then find your champion in that event. For this to work efficiently, scores will have to constantly be coming out of the boat and will be announced real-time.

In total, the combined cash pool for this tournament is US$20,500. This will be divided up as follows:
$5,000-First place Overall
$2,500-Second place Overall
$1,000-Third place Overall
$2,500-First place in each event
$1,000-Second place in each event
$500-Third place in each event

Now, with 3 events and an overall placing available, that gives any skier the chance to win up to $12,500!  This is one tournament you DO NOT want to miss!!

The whole event will also be broadcast live to the world via the World Barefoot Center site. This gives you the opportunity to be a part of the action, even if you are not able to attend!
