My 1st Cover on the Water Skier Magazine

Thursday, May 2nd, 2013

I had no idea I was going to be on the cover.  The photographer, Zenon Bilas had a few different idea’s for me one day during a shoot.  He asked me if I could ski a few feet off the swim platform of an inboard boat?  I had barefoot skied there before but only on two feet.  He thought we could get a sweet angle while standing on the back storage of the boat while looking down on me.  I was up for the challenge and off we went.

I quickly realized I had only a few troffs to stand in while the frothy white water came roaring out from the bottom of the boat.  I had a hard time balancing on one foot.  I got knocked off my foot several times while crashing into the turbulent water.  If there’s one place I hate falling it’s directly behind the boat because the water feels like concrete.  I was able to pull off a front toe hold for a few short seconds and Zenon Bilas landed a sweet shot.

Sometimes we have to try new things to get results and in this case we did it.  I’d like to thank Zenon for being so creative and The Water Skier magazine for putting me on the cover when I needed it most in my career.  This cover rejuvenated me and kept me in the sport to want to achieve more!

Visiting Anytime Fitness Corporate Office

Anytime Fitness Tour Bus!

On our way through Minnesota we stopped by Anytime Fitness Corporate and met up with Mark Daly and our sponsor and club owner Natalie Betts. When arrived to Hastings, MN and we were greeted with smiles of amazement. Everyone was so curious why there was a thirty five by ten foot Anytime Fitness moving billboard parked in the visitor parking area. “We did not know we had an Anytime Fitness bus” many employers said.  Mike and Natalie  Betts helped us create a nationwide promotion of Anytime Fitness brand awareness wrapped in a tour bus.  The tour is linked with 2x World Champion Keith St. Onge’s Barefoot Tour, which also promotes my barefoot ski school in Winter Haven, FL  The World Barefoot Center.  Traveling the country spreading the word about health, eating right, and getting active has been a blast!  Follow the tour via  at Anytime Fitness National Barefoot Tour.

The corporate offices of Anytime Fitness have the most phenomenal atmosphere!  Everyone was  upbeat, relaxed, an all around good vibe for happiness and health.  With bright colored walls and workout equipment made the offices feel like a true gym.  A special hallway is filled with news paper articles focusing on amazing Anytime Fitness gym goers with success stories.  The most memorable success story is when Jay Leno makes a big mistake on his show!  This success story is the major one that will hit home. Click here for story. It’s important to remember that no matter how much or how little you succeed at least you are doing something!  We applaud Susan Bock, keep it going girl!

We had to hit the road once again.  Anytime through us some personal swag and other gifts to hand out on the road.  We said our thank you’s and goodbyes and hit the pavement!

Show Skiers Go Barefoot

Thursday, July 14th, 2011

Day 2 with the WaterHawks Water Ski Show Team, at Eagle Lake.

It was a windy morning but that didn’t stop us!  The cool breeze was a nice change from yesterdays high heat.  These footers are signed up for the entire day, that means each person skied two sets in the morning and two sets in the afternoon.  Lets checkout what they learned.

First up Tyler Schuman from Minnesota.  Tyler worked on his front one foot one hand trick and then moved on to backwards deep starts.  In the past couple years Tyler has played with backdeeps but couldn’t figure out what was going wrong.  Today KSO figured it out and had Tyler try it out on the WBC trainers.

One Foot One Hand!Barefoot Backwards!

Just last night we heard a story from Ryan Corkery about why he joined the WaterHawks Ski Show Team.  Ryan had come to a show 2 years ago and saw Keith St. Onge Barefoot in the show and from that day Ryan knew he had to learn to barefoot waterski.  A week after Keith left town Ryan became a member of the ski team. Inspiring! Now Ryan is doing his deepwater start, tumble turns and one foots a lot more easily, its amazing was a few tips can lead do.  Ryan worked on back deepwater starts too.

Ohhh Yeah! One Foot

Planting for a Backdeep

Chloe Lawson is tough!  After taking a year off from skiing due to a broken leg she is back at it once again, we applaude her for that!  Chloe has a natural great forward gliding position.  In the afternoon Chole worked on her back deep water starts.

Clean Frontwards Barefooting Posture

Chloe Back Deep Water

All around fantastic show skier Jordan Kintzle came out for the day.  Jordan learned a front deepwater start, working on getting a cleaner front one foot and is starting to glide perfectly on his feet backwards!

Nice Posture and Glide

Body Slide!

The WaterHawks show director Melanie Kintzle learned about the three point stance and standing up over her feet.  Once Melanie go the hang of it she was deeping up much smoother than before.  Those beach starts in the show will be much easier:)  Like many people Melanie was a little nervous to try a back deep, we assured her that you can breathe while dragging backwards.  After some encouragement Melanie was gliding backwards with ease.

Deep Water Start

Nice Barefoot Form!

Thank you all for skiing with us! We had a wonderful boat crew and it was very enjoyable! Remember we sell ALL your barefoot gear from wetsuits, to booms. We hope to see you in Florida at the World Barefoot Center.

Barefooting in Rolling Prairie

Sunday, July 3rd, 2011

Before the Footapalooza figure 8 tourney Thor Thordarson decided to book and organize a clinic day with some local footers.  We skied on a private site with lots of trees for wind protection and the lily pads limited the backwash.  It’s a perfect site for a barefooter.

The morning of the clinic was a little chilly but once lunchtime rolled around the sun was shining and the conditions were still fantastic for footing.

The barefoot clinic organizer Thor Thordarson is already a solid skier.  Thor has the basics down pat, the main goal for the day was to work towards back wakes.  We worked on cut outs.  Cut outs are a great exercise to do in order to learn to position of the back wake cross.

Andy Scupham is a teacher, well this summer he took part in the Keith St. Onge Barefoot Ski School.  What a great summer school class, right? Andy was a great student he listened well and accomplished his very first backwards one foot one hand! Next step is toe holds!

Seventeen year old Aaron Tanis footed with the crew all day.  Aaron learned a lot of barefooting tricks in a short period of time, we are impressed.  In the morning set Aaron completed his front one foots on barefoot trainers and in the afternoon he got up backwards for the FIRST TIME! Yay!

After taking a year off of skiing Mike Blackwell got back into it at lightening speed!  Before Mike arrived he could do a deepwater start and barefoot straight.  After a full day of skiing Mike had completed some tumble turns, front one foot on his feet, and he started the process of getting up backwards barefooting.  Sucessful day! Look how fast he progressed from shoe skis on the boom to the 5ft rope!

Jack Hollingsworth worked his frontward barefooting form.  Look how good his barefoot position became!

Brynn Hollingsworth braved the cold and skied the morning sets.  Brynn has barefooted before, but today we worked on making her front deepwater start a little smoother! Check her out!  We are putting the invite out to you and all the ladies out there to join us at Women’s Week down in Winter Haven, Florida this year!

A special thank you to Chris McWaters for allowing us to use your boat for the clinic.  we appreciate it!  Thank you Thor for organizing the clinic, it was great and everyone learned something, which is the main goal!  Keep footin’!

KSO Barefooting Across America-PA

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

A little lake outside of Utica, PA is where the clinic was based.  The Ebbert’s have a wonderful set up for barefooting.  Cottages and trailers are parked along the shore close to the waters edge, boat lifts and docks are set up and the barefoot jump ramp is snuggled in for a great view.  The weather conditions were not the best but we were still able to get alot accomplished. Jumping was the main focus for Greg and Cody Ebbert.  The main goal is smoother landings behind the boat, just a few bad habits need to be worked out and it will be smooth sailing:) Getting ready for competiton this summer Diane Schaupp worked her line step postition behind the boat!! Awesome!  Geoff Hust is a solid skier, and worked his back cutouts on shoes and backwards line step postion and many hops down the lake.   Josh Heckman was having some troubles with his back to front and with just a little bit of instruction he was turning like nobody elses business! Tom Chatham has just begun his jumping career.  He worked on his positioning going over the jump on shoe skis on the 5ft rope.  Thank you to Lisa Ebbert and other ladies that provided wonderful meals for us!  They were delicious! Kyle Ebbert has a new found hobby is editing videos! Its awesome, check it out! Skiing with KSO Video

Thank you for a great clinic we look forward to spending more time with you!

The first clinic stop of the Anytime Fitness National Barefoot Tour in Maryville Tennesee.

Maryville, TN Anytime Fitness National Barefoot Tour 2011

Keith St. Onge 2x World Champion and 11x National Champion travels the country teaching hundreds to barefoot waterski.  What better than the Smoky Mountians for a back drop?! It was a cool temperature clinic but we are not complaining because the wind was minimal and the lakes were like butter!

Channel 8 News came out for an interview! Here is a picture of the new crew filming Keith, Nate with the camera is amazed!

Wade Masters the clinic organizer did a wonderful job everything went smooth and was enjoyable.  Take a look at what Wade worked on during the barefoot clinic.

Thank you to Rusty and Kelly for allowing us to park the Anytime Fitness Tour Bus at your house, you were great hosts.  Kelly didn’t get a chance to foot this trip but before we know it she will move on from the barefoot swing and show us her stuff. Check out Rusty’s tricks on the water!

It's Lucky if a Butterfly lands on you, even more so if on your NOSE!

Tina McKeehan is amazing!  Tina learned to barefoot last summer and is improving quickly.  Like many women Tina is the only female skier in the area, but those men better watchout because she is on the road to pass them up!

Mark Johnson AKA Claw Foot/Bear Claw has success with his back deep! Yippie! Determination is the best word to discribe Mark Johnson.  When he wants something he goes for and nothing is going to stop him, not even a raw swollen chin;) As many of you know learning a backdeep can be a process to figure out, once it is understood it is as easy as pie.  We predict that Mark will be gliding along with ease this summer! Keep it up!

Keith Willocks or you may know him better by Willy was skiing up a storm in Tennessee!  Keith is a solid barefooter but always striving for more.  Its early in the season and Keith has already started working on turns.  If the he works hard and does some dry land practice he will be spinning like a top!
