Filippo Ribaldone: Back on the Water

Finally, after a long winter on the snow in the middle of April, I got back on the water. This winter was impossible for me to ski or even go to Florida because I did a course to become a snowboard teacher. It was a 1 season long course with no free time and 3 exams at the end.  The course was really helpful for me because it gave me knowledge not just about snowboard techniques but also athlete preparation theory, sport psychology, and motivation, safety and a lot of other interesting things.  Finally, I successfully passed the exam.

This year, I started with a different preparation on the water, thanks to the Italian Waterski Federation. We moved the boat in a very big lake called Viverone, this gave me te opportunity to start the season with some good bases i been doing set of 4 slalom passes, the good thing? every passes was soo long like 5 time a normal pass, and i was also skin in my lake the Waterski KLI in Ravenna, this combination for me was pretty good cos now i physically feels really good and gave me the opportunity to find out how to slide better on water and go back to the 2mt pole in stead of the high fly for back slalom which it make me goes faster.

Right now we took the boat back to the Italian Waterski Federation center in Recetto where the condition are always good and monday I’m gonna start jumping and tricking. I never enjoyed slalom, but now that I learned more about it I start to like it soo much. It is technical, fast, powerful  and also you to kind of edge change, is kind of carving and I love it. (ok, not as much as jumping :)

This season is gonna be fun as always, we got Italian National 12/13 of july, Scandinavian open in Norway, E&A’s in Austria and a competition in Holland.

Now everything is getting ready and fun for the new season, and I’m glad to feel that finally summer is arrived!

Filippo Ribaldone: Brielle Open Barefoot Competition

Tuesday, November 19th, 2013

During the second weekend of august I had the opportunity to go in Holland in Brielle to ski in another great competition and see all my good friends from all around Europe. I met Evert Aartsen, Jr.  at the airport of Amsterdam and together we been to Rob Mollencamp’s house to spend the night before going at the site.

On the second day, we met all the other skiers, Stefan Wimmer,  Kennet Eissler, Lavinia Eissler, and Lukas Eissler. I was so happy to spend some days with them.
The lake in Brielle is so good, we did the Europeans and Africans there last year, but I think 2013 was even better because we were all staying in the same hostel. It was so much fun.
Was a great competiton.  Evert did his PB in trick 5700 and everyone pushed really hard to have PB in jump…but it didn’t happen ahahaha
I think best jump was from Stefan and Evert both over 25 and then me with 24 but nobody landed 😉  The final result?  Evert first with 20.6 and me third with 19.9.
I love skiing with all this great guys from Europe…and I hope next year we will have a lot more competition like that.

Italian Barefoot Nationals 2013

Friday, November 15th, 2013

During the second week end of July 2013 in the beautiful lake of the waterski KLI in Ravenna, Italy there was the Italian Barefoot Water Ski Nationals.
For me was a great competition as I won my first Open Overall title and my second Jump title in a row. The jump competition was really tough, thanks to my friend Giulio Stagi.  After the first round, we had the same distance: 20.4. We had to move in the second round to decide everything–finally 21.3 for Giulio and 21.4 for me. Yeah!

But the best thing was the eight Juniors, 9 to 16 year old, entering the competition, all of them having at the end a result on board in slalom and trick. I was really happy for them, more than my result cos i think kids are the future of pure sport and having little skier comping up the rankings will also help the sport and the older (i hate to say older to me) skier to keep on going and keep skiing their best.
Well done little guys!
