Whole Foods Market Fuels Champions!

Friday, August 26th, 2011

As many of you can imagine, being a professional athlete goes hand in hand with eating well and taking care of the body.  As a barefoot waterskier, I have to stay on top of my eating habits to preform to the absolute best of my abilities.  During a four month Anytime Fitness  National Barefoot Tour on the road, Whole Foods Market has kept me and my fiance, Lauren Lindeman, going strong.  As we go from town to town, we stop at Whole Foods along the way.  Health is always on our mind– we enjoy real foods and we applaud Whole Foods for providing so many wonderful products.  We live vegetarian, dairy free, and gluten free– this is the best lifestyle for us!

Visiting Anytime Fitness Corporate Office

Anytime Fitness Tour Bus!

On our way through Minnesota we stopped by Anytime Fitness Corporate and met up with Mark Daly and our sponsor and club owner Natalie Betts. When arrived to Hastings, MN and we were greeted with smiles of amazement. Everyone was so curious why there was a thirty five by ten foot Anytime Fitness moving billboard parked in the visitor parking area. “We did not know we had an Anytime Fitness bus” many employers said.  Mike and Natalie  Betts helped us create a nationwide promotion of Anytime Fitness brand awareness wrapped in a tour bus.  The tour is linked with 2x World Champion Keith St. Onge’s Barefoot Tour, which also promotes my barefoot ski school in Winter Haven, FL  The World Barefoot Center.  Traveling the country spreading the word about health, eating right, and getting active has been a blast!  Follow the tour via  at Anytime Fitness National Barefoot Tour.

The corporate offices of Anytime Fitness have the most phenomenal atmosphere!  Everyone was  upbeat, relaxed, an all around good vibe for happiness and health.  With bright colored walls and workout equipment made the offices feel like a true gym.  A special hallway is filled with news paper articles focusing on amazing Anytime Fitness gym goers with success stories.  The most memorable success story is when Jay Leno makes a big mistake on his show!  This success story is the major one that will hit home. Click here for story. It’s important to remember that no matter how much or how little you succeed at least you are doing something!  We applaud Susan Bock, keep it going girl!

We had to hit the road once again.  Anytime through us some personal swag and other gifts to hand out on the road.  We said our thank you’s and goodbyes and hit the pavement!

Only Jesus and Barefooters Walk on Water

Saturday, July 30th, 2011
Day 5 the afternoon session!

Only Jesus and Barefooters Walk on Water!

Youth Pastor Dan Boeck has been down the the World Barefoot Center Ski School in Winter Haven, Florida a couple times.  This summer we were in Pastor Dan’s home state of Iowa doing a barefoot clinic.  Pastor Dan decided to bring a a group of kids to the barefoot clinic in Waterloo, IA.  It was a hot hot day, perfect barefooting weather.

Dan’s Daughter Bethany Boeck, Roman Chrischilles, Josh Anderson, Zach Lukkes, and Mitchell Martin all joined in the fun.  Even though the boys thought it was more entertaining to take a fall each and every one of them got up barefooting in an afternoon!  Sweet job! Checkout the shots we took that day!

Thank you for coming over and joining in on the clinic.  We enjoyed our time and look forward to seeing you soon! Follow our tour on Facebook! Anytime Fitness National Barefoot Tour!

WaterHawks Day 5

The 5th and final clinic day at the Waterhawks ski site.  Today we had 10 barefooters!  Five in the morning session and a completely different crew of five in the afternoon.  It was sweet! Checkout our morning footers!

Morning Barefoot Clinic Crew

Coy Roussell started us off for the day! First set Coy learned a front toe hold on the WBC shoe skis and by next set it was very close to getting it on his barefeet!  We started the process of going backwards and doing the back deep water start.  As many of you know there are TONS of steps to learning the back deep and in one set Coy was starting to come up! Awesome dude!

Ready for a front deepy?

Coming Up on the Backdeep

Want to meet a fast learner! Mitch Tauke learned to barefoot incrediable fast!  In just 2 sets he learned his front deepwater on the boom, then shortline and then on to the 10ft extention.  Keep it up Mitch and before you know it long line will be a breeze!

Controlled!Three Point Stance-MitchAnd he's even giving us a thumbs up!

Ryan Ruhns already knew how to barefoot, but wasn’t getting up consistently.  Today we worked on a smooth transition from the deepwater to three point and then to standing up!  Ryan also learned to do a front one foot on the shoe skis.

After a nice smooth stand up!- RyanStrongman Front Toehold!

Jackson Twait hit the water for the very first time today!  Jackson learned a deepwater start on the boom.  Oh but thats is not all is also to let his feet glide across the water and did both front one foots! It’s rare but it happens and Jackson is better footing on just one foot than two! Great job!

Jackson on his barefeet!Working barefoot Form- JacksonOh yeah! One Foot!

David Lammers had attempted barefooting a few times in the past, today with a little bit of instruction he got is feet gliding!  From the barefoot swing to the deepwater start.  Checkout his great three point! Looking forward to seeing some video!

The Boat House Restaurant in Coldwater, Michigan Executive Chef and Owner Chris Nixon

Mike and Natalie Betts Anytime Fitness owners and clinic organizers took us out for dinner.  We traveled across the Indiana border into Michigan.  We pulled up to the Boat House restaurant that sits above Coldwater lake.  We travel all over the world and eat at many different restaurants but this is by far the absolute most phenomenal food that we have eaten!  After looking at the menu we all decided that we were going to do the chef’s choice 9 course meal.  The chef was accommodating to our request of no meat.  Each course was a pallet pleaser to say the least.  Chef Chris Nixon is creative in the kitchen and prepared a variety of vegetables and seafood dishes.  Our courses were chilled beets in an orange vinnegrette sauce, fancy scallops,  Baramundifish,  sushi grade tuna with radish salsa, celery root slaw,  Thai shrimp, all the courses were exquisite.

For the first course of dessert Chef Chris Nixon made fresh strawberries covered in rhubarb foam. Our taste buds were extremely happy!  Now for the ultimate dessert, Chef Chris Nixon came out of the kitchen and prepared our last course table side.  Chef Nixon has mastered the skill of using liquid nitrogen to prepare foods in unique ways.  Our dessert was served directly on the table check out his creation!

Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream!

Dessert! Sponge Cake, Ice Cream, and Whip Cream!

Licking It Up! Yum!

Thank you Mike and Natalie for a wonderful evening we has a magnificent time with you both.  Thank you Chef Chris Nixon for your creativity and love for food!  We give the Boat House restaurant 10 STARS!

All “Betts” are on!

Lauren and I arrive at the Anytime Fitness in Angola, IN to meet the owner, Mike Betts.  Mike and his wife Natalie sponsored our RV wrap with an Anytime Fitness logo so it was best to leave the motor home as a billboard since we get so much attention from it.  Just pulling into the parking got people’s attention!  We left there and stayed at the lake house during the three-day clinic.

We caught up with the Betts that evening and shared stories of being on the road for one month thus far.   We continue our conversations over diner at Timbuktoos, that is a local favorite.  They have an amazing and unique menu!

Lauren and I had just caught an REO Speedwagon concert a few days before.  Mike told us he sat next to the lead singer (Kevin Cronin) on the plane before and like always we say, “What a small world.”  Mike is originally from Australia and has a few Anytime Fitness gyms there as well.

The next day we finished early so Lauren and I played on Mike’s stand up Jet ski.  This is the only Jet ski I actually have a tolerance for.  I like the challenge compared to the sit down jet ski, which involves no effort to ride and provides no exercise whatsoever.  After Lauren and I had our competitions on who could turn to the left and right the fastest we parked it.  It was a toss up on who was champion.

Mike had his buddy Greg coming over the next morning with another local footer, Jeff.  We decided to start skiing at 6:30am to beat all the Wally’s out on the lake since it was Sat.  Mike started the crew off and he looked great.  I taught him the lazy boy position a few years back at the ski school and he was comfortable doing that.  The “Lazy Boy” is similar to reclining a Lazy Boy recliner while riding the butt.  The position is riding on the tailbone with the handle pulled in.  Knees and feet are squeezed together while knees are slightly bent.  Just think of the sitting V position in P90X and that is the “Lazy Boy.”  This position will help you do long butt slides at the end of your runs or get you in control before standing up.

After Mike’s feet got a little sore we moved onto backwards deep water starts on shoe skis.  He perfected that last year on shoe skis and was back for more.  He took a backwards fall last year that slightly injured his back so getting up wasn’t the problem but skiing away from the starts challenged him mentally.

Mike Betts Frontwards Barefooting

This was Greg’s first time learning a deep-water start since his early days of standing up off a kneeboard.  I went over the basics with him on dry land first and he adapted quite easily!  He was stoked to be standing without the aid of a kneeboard and had this smile that lasted all day.  I taught him the lazy boy as well and that kept him in control before standing, which I recommend.

Greg Smiling Ear to Ear!

Greg’s wife Elena came out for a set.  A few years ago Elena had tired barefoot waterskiing and had a bad fall the first time, like many this shyed her away from the sport until now.  First try and look at her go!

Elena Female Footer! Yay!

Greg and Elena brought there very own little cheerleader! Rosie will be getting her feet wet soon!

Soon to be Barefooter

Jeff was the guy that was self-taught and I could tell.  Straight legged and rough on the starts but after a few pointers and tricks of the trade I could tell I made his life a little easier and more enjoyable! Jeff got up on his second attempt backwards on his feet!  He never thought he would ever go backwards but with a little push from me and the aid of thewaterproof  HeadZone helmet he learned it quickly!

Barefooting on the Boom

I ran into an old time friend and student that morning named Randy Strebig.  He joined in the clinic on a last minute invite and since the wind had started to blow quite hard he invited us all out to a private lake in the area.  Randy is a wild man that likes to live on the edge and after he let me look him over he wanted to do surface turns.  I corrected his position and he began to turn easily.  Towards the end he took a few falls and I explained to him that his head and shoulders were turning before his hips and feet.  Everything must turn as one unit.  I had heard Randy competes in ballroom dancing and he brought up a good point just as I was going to make fun of him.  He said they are taught to turn their head last, called spotting.  They turn their head last so they can focus on one point to prevent dizziness as well as stopping the twisting motion.  So, he tried to keep looking backwards when he did his back to front and it helped out tremendously!

Barefoot Clinic

Greg and Mike took one more set a piece and had fun on the private lake.  It’s always nice not having to worry about other boats or competing for calm shorelines.

Natalie barefoot water skied in the clinic last year but just got eye surgery and could not play.  We hope to meet up with her later this summer so we can get her on her feet!

Lauren and I were able to get a few runs in as well.  I just did a little showing off but Lauren nailed another toe up start on the ten foot extension so she was happy!

It was a fabulous three day clinic, great skiers and great fun! Thank you to all who participated.

It was HOT!  What better to do in the afternoon than to give the RV a little scrub down.  Just before we left Spencer, Mass we put in a little bit of elbow grease into the tour bus.

Footing on the Mon River-Morgantown,WV

Monday, May 30th, 2011

The Mon river in Morgantown, West Virginia is a prestine place for footers to get there feet wet. Rarely will you see another boat, except for the coal barges that pass by every now and then. This mountianous area has tons of history but it is most well known for coal mining.  All along the river sits barges filled to the top with coal, it is amazing.

Footers Ready to Hit the Water!

The barefoot clinic organizer Neil O’hara hosted a spectactular clinic. Great boats, sites, even Channel 12 News covered the event and did a story on the Anytime Fitness National Barefoot Tour with Keith St. Onge. Neil has a love for the water, when he gets out there the smile on his face says it all. Barefooting is addicting as many of you know, Neil is making an effort to promote the sport of barefoot waterskiing in the community. We applaude his enthusiasm and are happy to be included in his efforts. A big thank you to Neil for your hospitality and organization.

Unfortunately work comes before play. John Boyd works in the coal mines and was called in early in the AM on the first clinic day. Even though John was not able to make it out he was kind enough to let us use his boat for the clinc. Thank you for kindness, we appreciate it.

Barges Full of Coal

Heather Towers footer, mother, and all around great person. Heather’s upbeat personality keeps her working hard for more in the barefoot world. Working on barefoot surface turns is extremely difficult and time consuming, Heather takes one day at a time. Before we know it Heather will be spinning like a top on the water. Keep it up, we are rooting for you!

The Amazing Barefooter- Heather Towers

Barefoot Turns- Heather Towers

Does this Helmet have Goggles? :)

He didn’t compete last year but Kevin Towers is getting back into the barefoot world and plans on competeing in the 2012 Worlds Championships, Waco, Texas. Kevin has a love for music, his boat is decked out with speakers galore. It has been tested and proven that behind his boat a barefooter can hear the music from the boat clear as day, and we thought only wakeboarders did that. Kevin has a natural talent and drive that will allow him to succeed greatly. Keep your eyes open for Kevin’s posted scores this next year.

Cody Ebbert is a frequent visitor of the World Barefoot Center down in Winter Haven, Florida. His competing scores have sky rocketed from all of his hard work and tailored training. Turns are not a problem for Cody, he has smooth turns, now he is moving on to toe turns:) Cody is motivated and we look forward to seeing what scores he posts this summer.

Does Hair Sticking Out Make You Better?

Cody’s father Greg Ebbert, what a joy to have in the boat; Greg kept us laughing the whole day. Greg has been a barefoot enthusiast for years. For being so early in the season Greg is skiing extremely well. This summer we are cheering him on to complete all four turns behind the boat!

Female footers are sometimes hard to come by but Diane has her head in the game and goes footing with the boys. Ski partners Greg and Cody encourage Diane to keep it. Last year was the first time Diane competeted, since then she has learned boat loads:) We hope to see you at the WBC Women’s Week in November. Keith Coaching Diane on Backwards Position

Did your college professor barefoot waterski? Mike Strager is a professor at West Virginia University and has a passion for footing! Thats cool! Mike has the right idea, work in the winter and ski all summer long, thats the life. Focusing on following the correct steps to advance is a main goal of Mike’s and we applaud him for that. As funny as it may sound its not everyday that someone wants to learn baby steps and not jump to the extreme stuff right away. Mike is on the right track and he hope that he follows his plans and enters a tournament this summer! Go Mike!

Kris joined the barefooting world this week. We are happy to share this common addiction of barefooting with you. Kris worked from the WBC shoe skis on the boom, then to his feet, and he ended the day with a front deep on the shortline. Great progress, way to go Kris!!!

Zack Dell 11 years old, puts his feet in the waters for the first time!  We started Zack out on the swing and he surpassed it quickly.  With a smile on his face he proceeded to the boom on his barefeet and did great.  Keep practicing and next summer we can teach you a few tricks:)

The first clinic stop of the Anytime Fitness National Barefoot Tour in Maryville Tennesee.

Maryville, TN Anytime Fitness National Barefoot Tour 2011

Keith St. Onge 2x World Champion and 11x National Champion travels the country teaching hundreds to barefoot waterski.  What better than the Smoky Mountians for a back drop?! It was a cool temperature clinic but we are not complaining because the wind was minimal and the lakes were like butter!

Channel 8 News came out for an interview! Here is a picture of the new crew filming Keith, Nate with the camera is amazed!

It's Lucky if a Butterfly lands on you, even more so if on your NOSE!

Tina McKeehan is amazing!  Tina learned to barefoot last summer and is improving quickly.  Like many women Tina is the only female skier in the area, but those men better watchout because she is on the road to pass them up!

Mark Johnson AKA Claw Foot/Bear Claw has success with his back deep! Yippie! Determination is the best word to discribe Mark Johnson.  When he wants something he goes for and nothing is going to stop him, not even a raw swollen chin;) As many of you know learning a backdeep can be a process to figure out, once it is understood it is as easy as pie.  We predict that Mark will be gliding along with ease this summer! Keep it up!

Keith Willocks or you may know him better by Willy was skiing up a storm in Tennessee!  Keith is a solid barefooter but always striving for more.  Its early in the season and Keith has already started working on turns.  If the he works hard and does some dry land practice he will be spinning like a top!
